روز شنبه هشتم ژوئن 2002 از طرفهمکاران "دریا" مجلس یادبودی در گالاریامارچینی شیکاگو ترتیب یافت. انبوه دوستانآشنایان، و فامیل از راههای دور و نزدیک جمعشدند. در چهره ها که نگاه می کردی غمیجانگاه موج میزد. از دریا که صحبت میشد هالهای از مهر و محبت و انسانیت و بزرگی وجوانی و رشادت متکلم را در بر می گرفت ودر قلب و روح همه ما رسوخ می کرد. گوییاین روح نازنین دریا است که بر سراسر محلتجمع سایه گسترده و میگوید به یاد نیکی هایمن و مهربانیم باشید. من در قلب یکایک شمازنده ام. دریا در حادثه اسف انگیز یازده سپتامبردر برج جنوبی مرکز تجارت جهانی نیویورکجان خود را از دست داد. خانه ایران این فقدانبزرگ را به پدرش دکتر لین و مادر گرامیشناهید مشایخی - لين تسلیت میگوید و برایایشان بردباری آرزو میکند.

Personal: Bijan & Minu are residents of Rochester Hills and have been married for 10 years. He is a manufacturing engineer and she is a physical therapist. Both are very active in Persia House of Michigan.Organization: Meals on Wheels Rochester Older Persons CommissionWhat do they do: Bijan & Minu deliver meals to the elderly.We both joined the Meals on Wheels (MOW) program back in 1994, delivering meals twice a month on Saturdays. Our original intention was to try out volunteer work for a while; however, we have remained with the program since then and have enjoyed giving our time and efforts. The meals on wheels program began in Philadelphia in 1954. This organization started as a single small program serving seven seniors and has grown into hundreds of local "home delivered" and congregate meal programs that serve millions of elderly, disabled, or at-risk persons across the country. Though the help we provide may sound trivial, it has been an important 8 years of learning for us. Many of us take simple things for granted and do not appreciate the abundance of wealth we have around us. True wealth comes in the simple things. For a lonely elder, talking for a couple minutes to someone during a day is a wealth. Or, for us, helping an elder with arthritis to open a can of food or a carton of milk is a wealth of giving. In this case, both the elder and we enjoy this wealth. Our sad moments are when we find out a client name is removed from the distribution list. In most cases we have lost our friend to old age. One of the happy moments we experience is when we are asked “where are you from?" and we clearly and loudly answer back “from Iran”. We have enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels and encourage our friends to join in similar types of volunteer work.For information on having Meals on Wheels delivered or volunteering for delivering meals, contact your local Meals on Wheels office or your local City office you reside in. To nominate a Volunteer of the Season, or if you wish to share with others your volunteer work or your participation in a community work, please contact Khaneh Iran.

در سه ماه گذشته، خانه ایران برنامه هایگوناگون برگزار کرده است. سینمای خانه ایرانفیلم دایره را بنمایش گذاشت. دومین پیک نیکخانه ایران در هوای خوب با استقبال بسیاریمواجه شد.در سخنرانی" مشکلات مهاجرت، ویزا ومسافرت بعداز 9/11 " به سوالات بسیاریجواب داده شد. کلوپ مادران برنامه ای برایهالووین ترتیب داد که مورد استقبال بچه ها قرارگرفت. جوانان و نه چندان جوانان در مهمانی"پارتی با دی جی" برقص و پایکوبی پرداختند.استقبال بیش از انتظار هموطنان از مدرسه خانهایران ما را در هر چه بهتر کردن آموزش زبانفارسی مصمم کرده است.با آغاز کار کمیته گزینش، بزودی انتخاباتهیئت مدیره جدید خانه ایران برگزار میشود. بارای دادن خود در این مهم شرکت کنید.

اولین جلسه کمیته گزینش هیات رئیسه خانهایران ساعت 8 بعد از ظهر چهار شنبه 18سپتامبر تشکیل شد که برای گزینش هیات رئیسهخانه ایران تبادل نظر کنند.شرکت کنندگان ( با حذف عناوین ) عبارتبودند از : کیوان نجم آبادی، محمد ربانی،خليل پاكيده، محمود معلميان و مهنوش سنتکلر (غایب). در ابتدای جلسه كوتاه سخنی درمورد نحوه عمل کرد خانه ایران و علت تشکیلکمیته توسط فرخ نصیر پور ایراد شد و اعضأبرای تعیین رئیس و منشی کمیته رأی گرفتند وکیوان نجم آبادی به سمت رئیس و محمودمعلمیان به سمت منشی کمیته انتخاب شدند.در این جلسه تصمیم گرفته شد که نامه ای ازطرف کمیته برای هموندان خانه ایران همراهاساسنامه فرستاده شود و از هموندان در خواستشود که در صورت تمایل خود را برای وظایفاصلی هیأت رئیسه خانه ایران نامزد کنند تا درررسی بعدی نسبت به گزینش افراد تصمیمگرفته شود و به اطلاع هیأت رئیسه فعلی برسد.بر اساس مفاد اساسنامه رئیس و خزانه دار خانهایران باید دست کم یک سال در هیئت رئیسهکار کرده باشد و تنها شرطی که برای سایرمشاغل در نظر گرفته شده هموندی پویا در خانهایران است. شرط لازم برای انتخاب رئیس وخزانه دار از آن جهت است که نامزدها بهچگونگی کار در خانه ایران آشنایی لازم راداشته باشند. این امر به پیوستگی کاری خانهایران خواهد افزود. مدت خدمت هیئت رئیسهخانه ایران از زمان انتخاب دو سال خواهد بود.با آرزوی آنکه پس از دریافت نامه کمیتهگزینش، فعالانه در انتخابات شرکت کنید.

در بیست و چند سال اخیر همواره این پرسشبرای ما وجود داشته که تعداد ایرانیهای مقیمآمریکا چند نفر هستند. رسانه های گروهیفارسی زبان بخصوص کالیفرنیا همواره اصرارداشته اند که تعداد ایرانیها را چند ملیون گزارشکنند تا پول بیشتری از آگهی دهندگان دریافتکنند. اخيرا نتیجه سرشماری سراسری سال2000 اعلام شد و تعداد ایرانیان مقیم آمریکا را338,266 نفر اعلام کرد. بایستی توجهکرد که این رقم بر اساس تعریف "Ancestry"اداره آمار میباشد. چکیده، "هر که ریشه ای ازایرانی بودن در خود سراغ دارد بشمار آمدهاست". دو ایراد ممکن است باین روش گرفت.یکی اینکه شخصی که ریشه ایرانی دارد یانمیداند و یا مایل نیست ابراز کند و در نتیجهشمرده نمیشود. دوم اینکه این نگرانی هست کهدر سرشماری عمومی "اقلیت ها" كم شماریشوند. در نتیجه تعداد ایرانیهای مقیم آمریکاممکن است بیش از این رقم باشد.اینک گزارش جدید موسسهCenter for Immigration Studies (CIS)را بررسی می کنیم. این موسسه دست راستیهمواره سعی در بزرگ جلوه دادن ارقاممهاجرین دارد. این گروه بخصوص پس از9/11 با این بزرگ جلوه دادن قصد دارد ازورود مهاجرین مسلمان به آمریکا جلوگیری کند.اینان نتیجه بررسی خود را با استفاده از آماراداره مهاجرت منتشر کرده است. این گزارش برپایه تعداد دقیق مهاجران (کسانیکه کارت سبزگرفته اند) وکودکانشان و مهاجران غیرقانونی،تعداد ایرانیان مقیم آمریکا را 421,964 اعلامکرده است. بر این گزارش دو ایراد میتوانگرفت. یکی آنکه ایرانیهایی را که دارای کارتسبز هستند ولی مقیم آمریکا نیستند و تنها برایآسانی سفر و دیدار خانواده کارت سبز گرفته انداز تعداد کم نمیکند.و دیگر آنکه ایرانیان مقیمامریکا با ویزاهای موقت را در نظر نمی گیرد،در صورتیکه این افراد خود را ساکن آمریکامیدانند.بنظر نویسنده هر گونه که اعداد را کم و زیادکنیم و ارقام را به سال 2002 بیاوریم تعدادایرانیهای مقیم آمریکا در سال 2002 از500,000 يعني نیم ملیون نفر کمتر میباشد.جدول زیر تعداد ایرانیان مقیم میشیگان را درشهرستانهای مختلف از آمار سراسری 2000نشان میدهد.US Census - Ancestry: IranMichigan - 4673Oakland - 1578Washtenaw - 745Wayne - 650Macomb - 309Ingham - 290Kent - 198Livingston - 118Genesee - 97Kalamazoo - 92Monroe - 86Saginaw - 75Ottawa - 72Bay County - 48Midland - 46Other Counties - 265گزارش CIS درآمد متوسط یک ایرانی رادلار ذکر میکند. این رقم برای تمام *60,000آمریکا 37,057 دلار میباشد. با توجه باینکهدرآمد اهالی اوکلند کانتی 50% بیشتر ازسراسر آمریکا است در نتیجه احتمالا درآمدمتوسط هر ایرانی مقیم اوکلند کانتی 90,000دلار در سال میباشد.فرخ نصیرپور* Earning figures are for men 25 to 64 years of age employed full time at least part of the year.For more information contact: www.factfinder.census.com www.cis.org
